We’ve been reporting on the progress of the much-anticipated SimWorks Studios PC-12/47 since it was first announced. Now, it appears that we are closing in on a release date and SimWorks Studios has taken to their social channels to outline the anticipated availability and pricing. In a Facebook post, SimWorks Studios stated: “We are delighted to announce that the SimWorks Studios PC-12/47 is going to release on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 12:00GMT. The plane will be listed at €24.99 and release on www.simworksstudios.com and the Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace as soon as approved by MS. Availability to other stores will be made known next week.”
The PC-12/47 represents the most complex and ambitious aircraft that SimWorks Studios has developed to date. It features highly detailed flight and engine modeling, the developer’s first in-house avionics suite, custom sounds for two engine variants, and multiple interior configurations.
The base PC-12 release will be just the beginning though as SimWorks Studios plans to add more features to the aircraft over time. The past several updates provided by the developer have given clues about what those features include. For example, we’ve learned the PC-12 will support the GNS530/430 and GTN750/650 navigator configurations (the GTN750/650 will work with both TDS and PMS50). However, the model will not support on-the-fly, hot-swapping of avionics due to the lack of a tablet – which is under development for a future release. Instead, an installer will give users the option of choosing their desired GPS configuration.
We’ve also learned that failure modeling has been dropped from the initial release. SimWorks Studios attributed this to the feedback they received that most people did not want failures at all, and a smaller number wanted the ability to turn them off. Additionally, SimWorks Studios has stated its goal of improving the failure system before putting it into the aircraft. However, the removal of failure modeling from the scope of the initial release allowed them to lower the price of the PC-12 base model. SimWorks Studios has promised that failure modeling will be added as a paid expansion at a later date.
Earlier this month, the NDA for the PC-12 was lifted and we began to see more in-game visuals and hear first impressions from YouTube and Twitch channels. The video linked below from OverKillSimulations is just one example.
It’s worth noting that SimWorks Studios specified that the December 6th release will be PC-only because they have not had enough time to fix a bug that affects Xbox users. The console release will be available as soon as the bug is fixed.
