One of the biggest releases for X-Plane 11 has just happened with Rotate finally releasing the long-awaited MD-11. The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 is an iconic tri-engine jetliner that is commonly used today as a freighter aircraft for the likes of FedEx.
The MD-11 was first introduced in 1990 and was developed to replace the ageing DC-10. It entered service first with Finnair as a passenger jet and soon 200 of the type were eventually built. Now, it is used as a freighter, which is exactly what Rotate has modelled in this new X-Plane 11 release.
Rotate has spent four years making this aircraft and no detail has been left untouched, with many features and functionality included. All systems are simulated based on the specifications of the original model, along with various redundancy simulations included with both automatic and manual modes.
According to the product page, Rotate has included a large number of systems including an accurate air, electrical and hydraulic system, as well as a complete automatic flight system. All FMA modes are simulated, along with flap limiting, stall warnings, automatic pitch trim and more.
For those looking to go deeper into the simulation, a full test system has been included meaning you can ensure fire systems are working, the weather radar is functional and all emergency power is in working order. More than 200 failures are also included with the Rotate MD-11.
Alongside the in-depth systems going on behind the scene, Rotate has ensured that this MD-11 looks the part, too. The aircraft comes complete with fully HD textures, high-resolution 3D modelling and detailed animations. Furthermore, there are aircraft loaders, functional cargo doors, wingflex, moving airstairs and more. The soundscape has been created with FMOD dynamic effects for the most immersive experience possible.
Finally, 10 liveries have been included with the product including the Rotate livery, FexEx, EVA Air Cargo, UPS, Lufthansa Cargo and many more. Those who use VR will also be pleased to hear the Rotate MD-11 comes fully supportive of the technology.
