During FlightSimExpo 2023, FlightSim.to shared a teaser trailer for their upcoming new website redesign. The promise was a refreshed design that was built with user experience in mind. After some maintenance overnight, the website has been updated.
FlightSim.to is one of the biggest websites in the industry, thanks to its huge catalogue of downloads for Microsoft Flight Simulator. It then ventured into the realm of offering payware products and then eventually a premium service for those users willing to pay. The new website is the result of creating a new user-friendly interface and future-proofing it for years to come.
The new site “[aims] to provide flight simulation enthusiasts with a revitalized platform that sets a new standard for convenience, functionality, and enjoyment.” The new site has been built from the ground up, having incorporated user feedback from the community. “By leveraging the latest technologies and implementing robust backend infrastructure, we have significantly enhanced the overall speed and responsiveness of Flightsim.to,” their news post on the matter says.
Some features are still being worked on and will be implemented as soon as possible. The team says that they will add features with continuous updates to the platform. “Together, we can shape Flightsim.to into an even more exceptional resource for flight simulation enthusiasts worldwide.”
Whilst the team set out to create a more friendly experience for users, the comment section on their website overwhelmingly disagrees with this. User s_t said, “The new UI makes the site feel cluttered and confusing.”
User FlyingsCool said “I love that the list of addons is long now and not multiple pages. The problem this causes with the way it’s currently programmed, if I click on an addon, it opens it in the same page. Ok, not so bad. But when I hit the browser Back button, I end up at the top of the page, and I have no idea where I was.”
Many users in their comment section want the old design back, but FlightSim.to has said in their Q&A that this isn’t possible due to the changes made both in design and in the infrastructure. FlightSim.to have implemented a ‘Feedback’ button which does allow users to then share their feedback to help the team improve.
You can head over to their website now and check out the changes for yourself.
