During Gamescom 2023, Microsoft announced a brand new city update and a new local legend for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The newly announced downloadable content pieces were shown off for the first time in two new trailers revealed during the show.

City Update: Western Europe

Starting with City Update: Western Europe, the newly announced city update focuses on a range of cities within the region. In the trailer, we saw the following cities are updated:

  • Rotterdam, Netherlands
  • Ghent, Belgium

  • Geneva, Switzerland

Furthermore, the trailer also revealed that a range of landmarks and points of interest have been added. In addition, Cologne-Bonn Airport has been added, based on the trailer and remarks from Jorg during the presentation.

City Update: Western Europe is now available through the in-sim Marketplace.

Local Legend 12: Dornier Do-X

Dornier Do-X was also announced as Local Legend 12. The Dornier Do-X was designed to compete with the likes of large passenger ships in the 1920s and is known as the most powerful flying boat in the world at the time. It first flew in July 1929 and could reach speeds of 130 knots.

The trailer revealed a detailed interior model, plenty of special effects and the ability to fly it and land it easily on water.

The Dornier Do-X was developed with thanks to Oliver Moser.

You can buy it now from the in-sim Marketplace during a special offer where you can save 33%. The usual price is $14.99 USD.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

During the stream, Jorg was also asked about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. During the interview with Jorg, he reiterated that this is “the biggest undertaking for flight simulator” that has ever happened and that 500 people are currently working on it.

What’s more, he said that it is possible that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will be at Gamescom in 2024.

Correction: We made a mistake in the excerpt and said 2023, when we meant 2024 – which was already accurate in the article. We regret this error.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.

Updated this article to reflect the immediate release of both City Update: Western Europe and also the Dornier Do-X.
