People come and go from roles within companies all the time, but there are a few names in flight simulation that are as well known as Mathijs Kok. One of the longest-serving members of Aerosoft, he has led multiple projects over the years, overseeing releases such as the Airbus series and the CRJ series on several platforms.
On the Aerosoft forums, after some rumours circulated he was to leave Aerosoft, he confirmed that this is indeed the case. “After more than 20 years, it felt like Aerosoft and I have grown apart and that it was time to leave,” Kok said on the forums.
He continued by adding that there are still companies and people interested in his expertise and experience and that we should be meeting him again. It’s not sure if he means it will be within flight simulation or in another manner. He said, “I was a bit surprised that even though I am old as Methuselah, there were still companies and people interested in my expertise and experience. I will start a new career, and I am very much looking forward to that. We’ll meet again.”
Thoughts then turn to his most current project he is managing; the A330 for Microsoft Flight Simulator. He said that he is confident that the project will not be “seriously affected” by this transition and that he will be handing over project management for the A330 shortly. “[I] am confident that the new project manager will take over here to inform you.“
For now, the official preview thread for the aircraft has been locked. Based on our conversations with the teams during FlightSimExpo 2023, the aircraft is intended on releasing this Summer. You can also watch the latest teaser trailer here.
We got to try the A330 for MSFS during FlightSimExpo 2023 and we’ll be sharing our hands-on impressions soon.
