Calling all adventurers and sun seekers, 29Palms Scenery Design has announced the development of Santorini Airport (LGSR) and the surrounding island for MSFS.
One of the many islands that make up modern-day Greece, Santorini is located in the South of the Aegean Sea, approximately 120 miles south of the Greek mainland. The island forms the southernmost member of the Cyclades island group and is the remnant of a caldera, a large cauldron-like hollow that forms after the emptying of a volcanic magma chamber in a volcanic eruption. The island is regularly voted as one of the best island destinations worldwide and welcomes more than 2m tourists each year, most of which arrive via cruise ship or aircraft, landing on the islands Santorini Thira International Airport (LGSR).
Santorini Thira International Airport (LGSR) is located about 6 miles southeast of the city of Thira, it welcomed more than 0.5m passengers in 2020 and has seen continuous operations ever since its inauguration in 1972. Today, the airport sees many international carriers flying to and from its single 2,200m long runway, including British Airways to London Gatwick and Heathrow, flyDubai to Dubai, and Luxair to Luxembourg, to name but just a few.
MSFS scenery developer 29Palms Scenery Design has announced on Facebook that they are developing an accurate recreation of Santorini Island, including its main airport, for MSFS users to discover. In addition to a precise rendition of Santorini Thira International Airport (LGSR) featuring both, its old and modern terminal buildings, and a modern-day ground layout, the product will feature the entire island of Santorini and its smaller sister island, Thirasia. Both will be depicted in 3m per pixel mesh resolution and covered with custom-made “Cycladic” houses and structures. Finally, the developer also lets readers know that the scenery will feature accurate, region-characteristic vegetation, all set to finish the high level of immersion felt.
29Palms Scenery Design has yet to announce a formal release date nor a set price for their anticipated recreation of Santorini Island for MSFS. We will endeavor to keep you updated when further details regarding the release date and pricing become available. Until then, check out the developer’s original Facebook post linked here.
