It has been over a year since we got a proper look at 29Palms’ upcoming Santorini Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator, but today the developer told us that they’re finally getting “closer to release.”
The team said that a lot of work has been done on the airport since its last previews in March 2023, with a lot of focus on the airport itself. Alongside that, 29Palms has also included high-resolution mesh. We already know that the product will feature the entire island of Santorini and its smaller sister island, Thirasia. Both will be depicted in 3m per pixel mesh resolution and covered with custom-made “Cycladic” houses and structures. Finally, the developer also lets readers know that the scenery will feature accurate, region-characteristic vegetation, all set to finish the high level of immersion felt.
Santorini Thira International Airport (LGSR) is located about 6 miles southeast of the city of Thira, it welcomed more than 0.5m passengers in 2020 and has seen continuous operations ever since its inauguration in 1972. Today, the airport sees many international carriers flying to and from its single 2,200m long runway, including British Airways to London Gatwick and Heathrow, flyDubai to Dubai, and Luxair to Luxembourg, to name but just a few.
As usual, we’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date with the latest information. Once it drops on Contrail, we’ll be sure to inform you.
