Scenery developer Flightbeam has been working steadily on its San Francisco International Airport (KSFO) scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator, though updates have been scarce. In fact, our last major preview was back in April 2023 when Flightbeam showed off KSFO’s Domestic Terminal 1. In the latest development blog entry, Flightbeam’s founder, Mir, sheds some light on the progress of the upcoming scenery and shows off previews of KSFO’s International Terminal A.
From earlier development blog posts, we know that Flightbeam’s KSFO will be released under the banner of a “Captain’s Edition” product. In this latest blog entry, Mir details that a “Captain’s Edition” product indicates that the scenery “must sit high above previous releases in terms of visual complexity, quality, and performance.” Mir acknowledged that while there has been a huge amount of interest in the upcoming KSFO scenery, deadlines have been missed. “This [level of detail] takes time, a lot of it, especially with an airport of this size with all of its nuances. I can assure you without a doubt, those waiting for KSFO: CE will not be disappointed.”
Mir also stated that a milestone had been reached in KSFO’s development and that this milestone brings the product closer to completion and a release that “should happen before summer”. Part of this milestone, presumably, is Flightbeam’s work on KSFO’s international terminal, including the international “A” gates, which the developer previewed in the blog update. In the preview shots, we can see the work that has gone into the international terminal and a representation of the air traffic common to that area of the airport, as well as some of the texture details surrounding the gates themselves. The landmark Grand Hyatt at SFO hotel, located at the airport near California’s busy Highway 101 just outside of the international terminal area, is also visible in the preview shots.
No exact release date has been provided and, as usual with Flightbeam pre-release screenshots, things are subject to change. Be sure to stay tuned to FSElite for more details on Flightbeam’s KSFO: Captain’s Edition for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
