FSimStudios has taken to its social channels to announce the release of Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (CYWG) for Microsoft Flight Sim. In an update we covered earlier this week, the developer made it clear that they were prioritizing the completion of CYWG. Now, we see that those efforts have paid off with the official release of CYWG for MSFS – and the timing couldn’t be better for pilots participating in the Cross the Pond Eastbound online event this weekend, of which, CYWG is a point of departure.

Named after the Canadian Cabinet minister and Winnipeg businessman, James Armstrong Richardson, CYWG is the main international airport serving Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The airport is located 4 nautical miles (8 km) northwest of downtown Winnipeg. In 2022, CYWG ranked as the seventh busiest airport in Canada, handling over 3 million passengers. The airport is a hub for Calm Air, Perimeter Airlines, Flair Airlines, and cargo airline Cargojet. It is also a focus city for WestJet. Together, twelve airlines offer direct flights from CYWG to major cities across Canada and the United States as well as non-stop international flights to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Europe. In addition to its commercial air service, CYWG is also home to CFB Winnipeg and the Royal Canadian Air Force’s 17 Wing.

FSimStudio has stated that CYWG serves as an ideal testing ground for pioneering technologies slated for integration into future updates across their product line. The airport features a fully modeled terminal interior (that can be deactivated for performance) as well as detailed models of all airport buildings, objects, and surroundings. Cargo, CFB Winnipeg (including static RCAF CC-130H Hercules), and general aviation facilities are also modeled in detail.
FSimStudios CYWG is available via Contrail, ORBX, or the developer’s own website for a suggested retail price of $18.99 USD (approx, excludes any applicable taxes).
