Developers Beautiful Model of the World (BMWorld) and AmSim have teamed up again to deliver San Diego International Airport (KSAN) for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The Southern California, USA, airport is a popular travel destination in the real and flight-sim worlds thanks to its scenic location and temperate weather. KSAN holds the distinction of being the busiest single-runway airport in the world with an average of 500 departing flights per day and over 20 million passenger departures annually. The airport is also well-known for its close proximity to the skyscrapers of Downtown San Diego which gives pilots and passengers alike an excellent view of the city during the approach to runway 27.
BMWorld and AmSim’s collaboration on San Diego International Airport represents a present-day update for the popular West Coast airport. Based on September 2023 data, the scenery features a detailed terminal area (including interior modeling), surrounding buildings and waterfront areas, cargo and FBO facilities, as well as high-resolution, custom ground textures. Areas of the airport currently under construction, including the construction of Terminal 1 – or T1 as it’s come to be called – due to be opened in 2025, are included in the scenery. A ”lite” version of KNZY North Island Naval Air Station (Halsey Field) on the Coronado peninsula immediately adjacent to KSAN, is included as well.
