Aerosoft has removed their somewhat controversial DHC-6 Twin Otter from sale for MSFS. The Twin Otter is no longer available for purchase from the Aerosoft shop. This was shared by Aerosoft’s Mathijs Kok over on their own forums, after a user noticed the plane had been removed from sale and asked for an explanation. The company has not given a specific reason as to why the plane was removed, but it did state that they are planning to re-introduce the aircraft at a later date as ‘part of another project’. Mathijs also stated that the aircraft in its current form (stand-alone) would not return. No details on what this other project might be were given, but Mathijs hinted that customers looking for a DHC-6 should not expect a return anytime too soon. Customers of the product will continue to receive support for it, although no major updates were planned for the plane. The plane remains available for sale through the in-game Marketplace (for now), as well as for other platforms (FSX, P3D).
Aerosoft’s Twin Otter has long been a product of controversy. Upon release, we had a look at it, but weren’t too impressed with the aircraft. The sound in particular left us feeling underwhelmed. The community echoed these concerns, and despite several updates, the Twin Otter never quite lived up to its reputation. The plane garnered renewed controversy after a mod on popular freeware website flightsim.to was taken down by Aerosoft citing copyright issues.
