At long last, Aeroplane Heaven has released their highly anticipated Supermarine Spitfire Mk1A for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The Supermarine Spitfire is, of course, a plane that needs no introduction, with it being one of the heroes of the early days of World War II and the Battle of Britain. The plane was designed by R. J. Mitchell, although he would sadly never see the incredible feats the plane is capable of due to his passing away in 1937. The Spitfire Mk1A is powered by the powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and carries 8 .303 calibre Browning machine guns. It features the original ‘elliptical’ wings, whereas other, later variants of the Spitfire would see some different wing designs for different purposes. The Spitfire (and its subsequent Marks) would continue to fly for several air forces all the way until the 1960’s, and a small number of Spitfires still flies today under private owners.
Aeroplane Heaven’s Supermarine Spitfire is a highly detailed and authentic rendition of the plane. It features highly custom flight dynamics to give you an authentic flight performance, and a high quality soundset to complement the Merlin II engine. It also comes with special effects, such as engine exhaust and radiator heat vapour. Furthermore, the team has developed their own custom behaviour to simulate a tail-dragger that is supposed to fix MSFS’ default behaviour.
The product comes with several liveries, all made after original Spitfires that were piloted by some of the aces that fought in the Battle of Britain. Also included is one of the ‘Dunkirk Spitfires’. Aeroplane Heaven’s Supermarine Spitfire Mk1A is available for $32.95 from the Aeroplane Heaven website. Alternatively, the product is availabe on several third party stores such as SimMarket and Orbx Direct.
