Cargo pilots looking for a new destination will be happy to hear that developer XWind Studios has released their Chicago Rockford International Airport (KRFD) for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Also known as Rockford International Airport, the busy cargo airport in the U.S. State of Illinois, first previewed just last month, is now available for your virtual cargo ops.
KRFD is located in Rockford, Illinois, about 68 miles (109 km) northwest of Chicago, Illinois. A major hub for UPS and Amazon, Rockford is one of the fastest-growing cargo airports in the world processing over 907,000 metric tons of cargo annually, ranking it as the 14th busiest cargo airport in the U.S.
Airline service at KRFD is provided by ultra-low-cost carrier, Allegiant Airlines, which offers passenger service to several Florida destinations, Las Vegas, and Phoenix. In 2021, the airport served over 103,000 passengers. XWind Studios’ version of Rockford includes interior modeling for the domestic terminal and its four gates. KRFD is also home to AAR’s Rockford Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility that provides check-level, heavy maintenance visits, and modification services for various narrow and wide-body aircraft.
XWind Studios’ Chicago Rockford International is available from the iniBuilds store for a suggested retail price of £12.99 (excluding taxes). If you’re interested in picking up KRFD, it might also be worth noting this limited-time promotion: “For one week only (starting on 18, March), XWind Chicago Rockford owners can get 15% off the A300-600R Airliner with code “KRFD-A300” at checkout.
