Aircraft developer Wing42 has confirmed that their Boeing 247D for Microsoft Flight Simulator will release very soon. On their website, the development team took the time to announce the release date, along with a lot of information around how the price was determined.
Starting with the release date, Wing42 said that they plan on releasing the Boeing 247D on April 2nd 2022. The release follows months of hardwork and development from the team to bring this classic to life. Although that date seems set in stone, Wing42 said, “it goes without saying that if we run into major issues in the next few weeks, we might need to push the date a bit back, but I’m confident that we can wrap up development rather quickly from here on out.“
As for the price, the development team are taking a different approach to pricing with the Boeing aircraft. To cater to as many people as possible in the new simulator, Wing42 are taking a risk and will sell the aircraft for $19.99 USD. Speaking out on their development blog, the team said that if the aircraft in its current state was released for FSX/P3D, the team would be charing nearly $60 for the plane. Instead, in order to allow as many people as possible access the plane, the team wanted a price that was accessible to as many as possible.
In a candid statement on their post, Wing42 said that the new in-sim Marketplace has allowed even mediocre products “sell in their thousands,” which has given Wing42 the confidence to sell the Boeing247D at a lower price, but still enable the team to profit and grow.
As mentioned, the price is a bit of an experiment for Wing42. They added “[we] would like to point out that this is an experiment and as such I will retain the option to adjust the prices for our future products, if it turns out that the low price point is not economical in the long run.”
Come April 2nd, you will be able to buy Wing42’s Boeing 247D for Microsoft Flight Simulator. We’ll let you know once it’s out and what to expect from the product when it does release.
