Renowned scenery development house Fly2High has released their next U.S. destination, this being Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport (KLBB), for MSFS.
Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport is a medium-sized international airport located 5 miles north of Lubbock, Texas. Named after former Texas governor Preston E. Smith, the airport is the eight busiest airport in the state, serving as a hub for both FedeEx and UPS who use the airport as a dispatch center for feeder planes across the the country’s South Plains.
The airport orignially opened in 1937 as South Plains Airport, and was put under military command in 1942 when the U.S. Army Air Forces requisitioned the airport to serves as a training airfield. The airport primarily saw ground and flying trianing of army glider pilots and military use of the airport only ended in 1947 when civilian operations resumed. On an interesting side note, the original civilian passenger terminal was converted to house the Silent Wing Museum, a museum dedicated to the glider pilots stationed at the airport during the early 1940’s.
Today, the airport is considered the 8th busiest airport in the state and sees a wide variety of domestic and international operations take place. In addition to it serving as a interstate focus city for low cost carrier Southwest Airlines, the airport also sees major U.S. mainline carriers including American Airlines and United Airlines operate to major hubs across the country.
