The developers over at COWS have released two updates in a one-week span focusing on improving the visual quality of their DA42.
The first update, v1.0.5, brings initial visual improvements to bring the quality closer to their upcoming DA40 (which is still a work in progress). These improvements include refining 3D polygon shading around the engine and fuselage, sharpening textures, refining reflections and roughness, adding some dirt details, and fixing some shading issues.
A few days later the COWS team released v1.0.6 which further refines the improvements in v1.0.5. Namely, they removed excessive dirt specks, effectively “cleaning” the aircraft. They also added some roughness and fixed some light-baking issues with some of their liveries.
Finally, the team has stated that they are planning on reworking the visual model from the ground up for MSFS 2024, though they may back-port to MSFS if time allows. This remapping will unfortunately not work with existing liveries, so for the artists among us, you’ll unfortunately be required to rework any existing liveries. Updates will be provided in the coming weeks, according to the COWS Discord post.
