Well-known flight sim helicopter developer Cowan Simulation has capped off 2023 by releasing their R66 turbine helicopter for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Based on the Robinson R66, the five-seat light helicopter is popular with operators worldwide and known for its versatility in many wide-ranging roles. Powered by a single Rolls-Royce RR300 turbine engine, the R66 is reliable, economical, easy to maintain, and has a payload of up to 917 lb (416 kg) with full fuel.
Cowan Simulation’s version of the R66 comes with 51 liveries and multiple configuration options allowing the user to add details such as baggage and crates, animated 3D passengers, emergency floats, and removable doors. Avionics options include support for the PMS and TDS GTN series navigators as well as the GNS 530. Analog and digital gauge instrument panel versions are configurable via an in-game switch located on the instrument panel.
Currently available for PC only, Cowan Simulation states that the Xbox and PC marketplace versions “will be available when Microsoft/Asobo catch up from the holiday break.” You can purchase a copy of the CowanSim R66 from their website for $29.99 US.
