X-Plane developer ShortFinal Design took to their Facebook page to announce their latest project: San Jose International Airport. This will be the developer’s third California scenery for X-Plane.
Norman Y Mineta San Jose International Airport (KSJC/SJC) is the San Fransisco Bay Area’s second busiest airport and provides travelers with a direct connection to Silicon Valley. In addition, the airport is only 3 miles away from downtown San Jose, making the airport much more convenient than its counterparts in San Fransisco and Oakland. SJC Airport previously served as a hub for American Airlines, which closed in response to the September 11 attacks and the dot.com bubble. After years of declining airline service, San Jose finally experienced a rebound during the 2010s with new domestic and international carriers. Currently, the airport serves as a focus city for Alaska Airlines, with all major U.S. carriers and Zipair Tokyo also serving the airport.
While no details about a release date were provided, ShortFinal Design shared a variety of photo previews showcasing various locations around the airport. The developer promises a “detailed terminal” with “fully modeled and animated hangers.” Based on the realistic photo previews, it appears that ShortFinal Design will be delivering on that promise. Finally, it was noted on the X-Plane Forum that, unlike their previous sceneries, San Jose will be released exclusively for X-Plane 12 due to the use of various X-Plane 12 specific features.
FSElite will continue to monitor this story and provide any future updates.
