One of the easily overlooked bits of information that we learned during the September 27th MSFS Developer Livestream on Twitch (read our full recap here) was the discussion about the upcoming changes to the MSFS Cirrus SR22 planned for Sim Update 14 (SU14). During the steam, Working Title’s Matt Nischan joined Jorg, Sebastian, and Martial to discuss the aircraft model and avionics work that is being undertaken for the next sim update. Most notably, the current Cirrus SR22, included in the Premium Deluxe Edition, will be replaced by an all-new Cirrus SR22T G6. The overhaul will be extensive and includes an improved flight model, a reworked visual model, and realistic engine modeling using the turbocharged piston engine parameter enhancements included in Sim Update 13.
The “new” SR22T G6 will also feature Working Title’s reproduction of the Cirrus Perspective+ avionics package. Highlights include stabilized approach monitoring, a system that continuously monitors the aircraft’s configuration, position, and wind conditions, and alerts the pilot if the aircraft deviates from acceptable parameters, as well as a full-screen engine information (EIS) page, weight and balance calculation with a visual CG envelope display, and a realistic TKS anti-icing system with accurate flow rates and full anti-icing simulation. Cirrus Perspective+ trip planning pages including endurance, range, ETE, and ETA are also planned.

As background on the motivation for the undertaking, Jorg stated that an upgrade to the MSFS Cirrus was requested by none other than Zean Nielsen, CEO of Cirrus, who wanted a more modern representation of the Cirrus SR-series in the sim. Based on this, we can assume that the MSFS and Working Title teams will be working closely with Cirrus and have manufacturer support for the upcoming SR22 redesign effort.

Lastly, included with the news of the updates for the SR22, Working Title also indicated that they will be bringing support for alphanumeric keypad entry on the G1000NXi (and the Cirrus Perspective+). This long-requested feature will allow users of hardware representing the Garmin Control Unit (GCU) keyboard to more easily enter flight plans and other information into the avionics.
Working Title has stated that they plan to share more details about the SR22T’s feature list in the future and FSElite will continue to bring you updates as they become available.
