VATSIM Announces Network Wide 8.33 kHz Frequencies

The popular online flying network, VATSIM, announced on their Discord that their 8.33 kHz trial was a success and that all other ATC facilities can now use 8.33 kHz frequencies.

As you may have read in a previous FSElite news story, VATSIM held a trial run of their 8.33 kHz frequency spacing in Germany, the UK, and the Netherlands. After over a month of testing, they finally unleashed this additional frequency standard on the remaining ATC facilities.

For the uninitiated, 8.33 kHz is used predominately in Europe to increase the number of ATC channels due to the decrease of spacing from the conventional 25 kHz frequency. This is certainly exciting news to many die-hard VATSIM users eager to take their flight simulation to the next level. Fortunately, most modern simulators include support for 8.33 kHz frequency spacing, so as long as you have the proper avionics installed, you should be good to go.
