Halifax Stanfield International Airport Released for MSFS; P3D Version Coming Summer

CYHZ Halifax Airport Cyhz (1)

If you need another airport in Canada to fly to, then FSimStudios and Airfield Canada have your back. Dubbed as an “early adopter” release, Halifax Stanfield International (CYHZ) for Microsoft Flight Simulator can be yours now. Serving as the main airport in the region, the airport sees over 4 million passengers a year from over 80,000 aircraft movements. In fact, it is Canada’s eighth-largest airport and serves a number of destinations in and around the country. Popular routes include Toronto, St. Johns, Newark, Orlando, London and Cancun. As you can see, there are a lot of choices when it comes to where you can travel from the airport.

FSimStudios has teamed up with Airfield Canada to bring the airport to life. They both describe this as the most “detailed representation” of the airport created yet, with extremely detailed modelling for the terminal buildings including interior modelling. Furthermore, there is plenty of use of 4K PBR texturing, custom aerial ortho and custom ground polygons all around the airport product. Native rain and snow effects impact the airport’s visuals, whilst the native vegetation help to bring the airport to life. Finally, the team has included static commercial and GA aircraft, jetways and also worked to blend the airport with the nearby scenery for a seamless experience.

Whilst the focus of this product is on the Microsoft Flight Simulator version of the product, the team said that a Prepar3D version of Halifax Stanfield International Airport will release this summer. Those who do buy the MSFS version will get a discount on the P3D version.

Right now, Halifax Stanfield International Airport is only available through the FSimStudios store, but will soon be made available at Orbx, simMarket and other stores later this week. FSimStudios did confirm there will be no license transfers when buying the product on the FSimStudios website.

It’s not clear what “early adopter” means as there’s no detail on the product page. All the same, you can buy the airport right now for $19.50 USD.

On the X-Plane.org forum, Airfield Canada has announced their newest airport in development, Halifax Stanfield International Airport for X-Plane 11. Halifax Airport, named after the 17th Premier of Nova Scotia, Robert Stanfield, serves the Halifax area along with mainland Nova Scotia and adjacent areas. In 2018, Halifax Airport served over 4.3 million passengers and serves as a focus city for both Air Canada and WestJet.  Most flights to and from Halifax are run seasonally by airlines like United, American Eagle, Delta, Swoop, and Condor. Condor currently operates the only flight to mainland Europe with all other flights going to various destinations in Canada and North America.

There was little information given in the post, however, both the airport and surrounding areas are currently being modeled. At this time Airfield Canada has confirmed extensive modeling and ground textures for the airport have been completed. Halifax was originally started as a freeware project but due to the amount of time and money being invested into development a decision was made to continue as a payware project. Those users who donated to previous freeware work will be given a copy of Halifax free of charge. No ETA or price has been announced. Stay tuned to FSElite for more information on Halifax when it is made available.
