Barcelona almost seems like a sore subject within the Flight Sim community. Aerosoft did a good job a few years ago, but it was soon outdated and didn’t perform well enough for modern machines. Then suddenly, THREE developers all announced / released / previewed their version of Barcelona. We’ve also reviewed JustSim’s Barcelona, and now it’s time for LatinVFR’s version to be put under the microscope. We won’t be comparing in this review as we don’t feel it’s a fair reflection on either developer’s work.

Barcelona is an important airport for many reasons. Mostly due to being one of the largest Spanish airports and serving a wide range of airlines and destinations. It’s an exciting coastal airport which attracts visitors from all over the world. Serving over 44 million passengers a year, it’s always busy and making use of the various taxiways and runways. Further to that, the approach itself flies right over the city making for some stunning views along the way.

LatinVFR are known for taking on large airports and bringing them to a flight simulator. Their commitment has always been to provide a rich experience and to cover as much as possible. Barcelona is no different as you’re downloading the airport as well as the city itself complete with autogen, hand placed buildings and even the Sagrada Família. It feels like a complete package as once you download, you will have access to a manual with detailed instructions, a simple to use installer and a configuration tool. I found that the tool was pretty basic only allowing you to change a few things – none of which really impacted the overall performance of the scenery. More on that later.

Having traveled to Barcelona many times, I am very familiar with the airport, the approach and the surrounding area. LatinVFR have done an excellent job at creating the city of Barcelona. The buildings, the colouring and the layout of the city look fantastic and you can see the dedication the team have really made to ensure that this element feels right. If you look into the details, you’ll see swimming pools, roads and little houses, all of which are nicely modelled. Keep Reading

More SimWings / Aerosoft Barcelona X Evolution Screenshots

SimWings and Aerosoft continue to push on previewing their version of Barcelona with some new screenshots of the surrounding areas. We’ve seen some shots of the airport, but as Thorsten describes, you’ll now also have a “nice approach at El Prat from all directions”. This is because their version will include a huge coverage area between Tarragona, Lloret de Mar and Manresa.

The resolution of the shots will be 0.5m/pix for the surrounding area, whilst at the airport, we can expect 0.25m/pix. This will also include complete autogen and some other goodies as well.

How this will fair against LatinVFR’s and JustSim’s Barcelona we’ll have to wait and see. Great to see developers continue to push the boundaries of the sim.

Keep an eye on the Aerosoft forums for any further updates.

Aerosoft / SimWings Barcelona Preview Update

Sorry guys, we were a little behind on this one!

Aerosoft and SimWings previewed some new images from their upcoming Barcelona project a week or so ago.

The shots show off the detail the team are going to create for the terminal buildings as well as the apron area. The glass jetways look pretty sweet as well.

If you haven’t already, check them out for yourself and let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Head to the Aerosoft forums for more details.

LatinVFR Shows off Single New Render of Barcelona (LEBL)

LatinVFR revealed to us some renders for their upcoming Barcelona (LEBL) coming to a sim near you.

The original renders were first shown earlier last year, where you could see the ground imagery looked nicely done, as well as information on that the ground textures will take full advantage of Prepar3d’s coding.

As their first scenery package for Europe, you can be sure LatinVFR will be taking the time and attention to bring some fantastic work to the scenery.

We don’t have any further information for now, so be sure to have a look at the below render.

JustSim Barcelona (LEBL): The FSElite Review

As part of our Community Charter, we provide full disclosure at FSElite.

JustSim’s Barcelona was provided free of charge to FSElite for the purpose of reviewing for the community.

JustSim Barcelona El Prat Airport is the latest release from this developer who has had a prolific string of notable releases such as Nice, Klagenfurt, Innsbruck and most recently Barcelona. In this review, we will cover my opinions surrounding this scenery and I aim to give you the most accurate viewpoint on this major hub.

Barcelona El Prat is located approximately 12km from the centre of Barcelona City and is the second largest airport in Spain following on behind Madrid Barajas. Barcelona airport is a major transport hub for 5 airlines including Vueling, Air Nostrum, Norwegian Air Shuttle and Ryanair. In addition to this the airport also serves as a focus city for Air Europa, easyJet and Iberia whose main hub is Madrid Barajas. Barcelona mainly serves domestic European destinations but also has selected flights to North America, South America, Middle East, Asia and Africa. By the end of 2015 the airport had handled just under 39.7 million passengers just to give you an idea of scale.
