Aerosoft Malaga X (LEMG): The FSElite Review

PUBLISHER Aerosoft BUY FROM Aerosoft

The Southern Coastline of Spain has been missing this key Spanish City for many years now, but however we can finally say that Aerosoft Malaga X has been released and FSElite is enthralled to be able to review it!

Malaga is the fourth busiest airport in Spain after Madrid, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca. It is an important airport for Spanish tourism as it is the main international airport serving the Costa del Sol. It is  5.0 miles from the city of Malaga and the airport has flight connections to over 60 countries worldwide. In addition to this over 14.4 million passengers passed through it in 2015. The airport operates with three terminals. and offer a wide variety of destinations from these terminals the airport provides a daily link with twenty cities in Spain and over one hundred cities in Europe. Direct flights also operate to Africa, the Middle East and also to North America in the summer season. For all you virtual Air Europa, Vueling, Norwegian and Ryanair pilots this is a key airport you need as they are all based at Malaga. Other airlines with a large amount of destinations from LEMG include easyJet, Thomson, Jet2 and AirBerlin.

Installing the scenery was quick and easy like any of the other Aerosoft products and once installed provides a configuration tool which has a nice clean and easy to use UI. This is a fantastic feature that enables you to determine which features suit your flying style and computer specs. Once I had completed this process I just had to wait a few moments until my eyes were gifted with this beautiful masterpiece that Aerosoft have produced! I was, and still remain, blown away by how beautiful Aerosoft Malaga is. The textures are high resolution which make them crisp and the sharp, the detailing is mind blowing and I felt as if I had just touched down at the Costa Del Sol!

Another great feature of this scenery is the integration of SODE Jetways (Or CTRL + J Operated in more simple terms) which means jetways at AGP are animated. This little feature adds so much realism and immersion to the simulator, so kudos to Aerosoft for making the jetways animated!

Additionally to Malaga Airport there is extensive coverage of 180 km² of high resolution satellite imagery, although not as detailed as ORBX and surrounding scenery, Aerosoft has modelled the scenery around the airport and further a field to a certain extent. The Aerosoft satellite outside of the aerodrome isn’t as good as the ORBX Airport would be. Close to AGP the imagery is great, highly detailed, excellent modelling of 3D buildings, but the further you get away from the airport you notice the attention to detail become smaller and smaller, lesser amounts of 3D buildings etc. ORBX tend to model a large amount and still keep the detail levels at ‘extreme’. All in all I am impressed with the scenery near to the aerodrome it just might be nice to see some more detail in parts!

Night Lighting is well done in this scenery like all Aerosoft sceneries there is: terminal, apron and runway lighting.  I like the Aerosoft night lighting very much, because unlike other companies it doesn’t light up the taxiways and terminals like a nightclub dancefloor… that some companies seem to enjoy, but instead they make the night lighting in the scenery subtle and you don’t feel that the Ground Ops have put the lights onto 100% brightness.  It is a disappointment that  that they could not extend the night lighting into the satellite imagery they put into the scenery  but at tje end of the day us ORBX Global customers already have excellent outside lighting it is a let down for people who may not own ORBX Global and it is  shame for them to not have night lighting ou the scenerytside of the a

Furthermore all the runway marking and taxiways are all up to date after spending nearly an hour cross checking them with Navigraph LIDO Charts. The markings on the taxiways and runways match up exactly to that of the real airport and Aerosoft have obviously took a lot of time to ensure that these markings are as realistic as possible. This means a lot to me as a simmer as it is much easier to use charts when the aerodrome in question actually  has the correct taxiways and stands in the correct places.

When I departed LEMG it had that certain ‘buzz’ that I don’t really get departing other airports. I believe that this is because of the very very long wait that we have had for this scenery after many years, as Aerosoft halted the project many years ago, I have departed LEMG using updated AFCAD’s countless times before in the past, but on my first departure using the Aerosoft scenery my jaw hung there in amazement as the excellent satellite imagery close to the airport and its surroundings just so much more real. I have become a frequent visitor in and out of AGP ever since this release. I personally rate this as one of the best scenery releases for 2016 as it feels as if the equilibrium point has been found between detail performance and for just sheer eyecandy…

In addition to all these features which make the scenery immersive the scenery runs as smooth as butter! When I first loaded in at AGP I was easily achieving a high  40FPS to a low 50FPS (In the Aerosoft A320). To round it all off the VAS was incredibly low as well at 55%. This one of the best recent releases from Aerosoft (In terms of performance in VAS and Frames) As other releases such as EDDT and LKPR from them were well…. slightly lacking in the performance department.
