Laminar Research has been teasing the use of native Virtual Reality in X-Plane since Flight Sim Con and at long last, the public can finally get their hands on native VR in the sim. Although still in beta format, it’s been released to the public to test.
The focus on build 11.20 is all to do with virtual reality, so if you have the equipment, then testing out this beta will be for you. If you don’t, then the updates in this version will be minimal for you. The release notes for the beta is currently hidden behind a password protected post, but as soon as we have the information, we’ll let you know.
The minimum requirements are:
- Windows 7 64 bits or newer operating system
- HTC Vive or Oculus Rift
- 1 or more VR controllers
- Steam VR installed
As for how to install the beta, you can read the full instruction set on the X-Plane.org website here. You can also read this for information on betas in X-Plane 11. Also on that link is some information for any troubleshooting.
If you’re unsure, you can check out this great article from our friends at Helisimmer who spent some time with the new public beta.
