Orbx Announces Whangarei Airport (NZWR)

Orbx has announced that they will be releasing their first North Island Airport in New Zealand. Whangarei Airport (NZWR) will be a huge project undertaken by Alex Goff and a few other dedicated forum members. The project includes the airport as well as the bay and the city of Whangarei itself. There will also be plenty of places to explore including 3 helipads and other points of interest.

Outside of normal flying, you’ll be able to put your helicopter skills to the test as you’ll be able to recreate acting as part of the Northland Emergency Services Trust (NEST). NEST operates helicopter rescue missions around the island. Both Whangarei Hospital helipad and the McLeod Bay Rescue helipad have been modelled.

With two runways, the airport is open to a range of flying, but predominantly prop flying. A Dash 8 Q300 visits regularly as well as regular air taxi services.

According to Alex, the scenery will be available this holiday season as it’s just entered beta testing. It will be compatible with FSX, FSX:SE, P3DV1-4. You will be required to own and have installed New Zealand North Island.

Enjoy the previews below, but make sure you check out the forums for even more shots.

I have been an avid fan of Flight Sim since the release of ‘2000 and have developed my love for aviation ever since. I have the knowledge and experience to really deliver an excellent aviation community. Although no real life flying experience, I have a good understanding and always learning more and more.
