AirFoilLabs, well known for their acclaimed C172 addon for X-Plane, has released more previews of their current project, the Beechcraft King Air 350/350i package for X-Plane. After a hiatus of new information on the project, AirFoilLabs has also given us a new insight into how the aircraft is progressing!

The first part of their update details the current status of various aspects of the project, including 3D modeling, texturing, animations, systems, and more. Rather than dissect it all, I’ll leave you with their full list below for you to digest:

In addition to this new information, AirFoilLabs has taken the opportunity to show off some new previews of the King Air in-sim, and the detail demonstrated looks absolutely stunning! (over 49 previews were shared, and quite obviously we can’t cram them all into this article. While we will show 12 of them, the full set can be found here)

This is exciting news for X-Plane users as AirFoilLabs are known for their intense dedication to accuracy and realism in their modeling, and we can only expect that to continue into the new King Air. As of right now, a release date is still uncertain and there is a lot of work ahead, but the previews shown of the airplane certainly inspire confidence.

I’ve never come across a King Air 350 without a glass cockpit in real life. Most of the older 350s with the now almost antique Collins Pro Line II w/ Collins EFIS-85 3-Tube 5 Display steam gauges have been upgraded with aftermarket glass cockpit options.

I sincerely hope that Airfoillabs will offer a GTN 750 option instead of the Collins WXP-850 Weather Radar Panel, as that at least for me would make the steam gauge cockpit attractive in comparison to the much preferable newer glass cockpits.

Not sure there’s an equivalent to Flight1’s 750 in X-Plane, it would probably be a great add-on for aircraft ready to support it.

But in any case, it’s Airfoillabs, I wouldn’t expect much from them. The 172 was a total disaster, for all I know it’s probably not even finished yet after all these years. And most probably with a monstrous module downloaded/DLC and their infamous custom layer for controls, cameras and so on. Not an option. The only alternative is Carenado, unfortunately… perhaps the REP for the default B58 is a better choice for someone looking for a multiengine of that calibre, but I haven’t checked if there were limitations in the model like the default 172 (windows not opening, inop knobs, …).
