A2A Simulations J-3 Cub Starts Beta Testing

3 Beta Preview 2b Copy 750×469

Developer A2A has announced that their updated Accu-sim J-3 Cub for P3Dv4+ has begun beta testing.

In an announcement on their website, the developer discusses elements that have gone into the development of the plane, including an often-overlooked element – character design. The plane includes highly modelled pilot and passengers, including PBR, updated textures, and material definitions – the same that are employed in modern games. While much of the process description was highly technical, with work-in-progress pictures showcased some very highly detailed character examples.

The pilot and passenger models will use a high-poly model with several million polygons, and use a realtime model that will be a source for ‘baked textures like tangent and object space normalmaps, curvature, ambient occlusion, and material ID’.

The included work-in-progress pictures show off some highly detailed models of the plane itself, complete with shiny PBR textures. With the plane now in beta, it can’t be far off.
