Telluride Regional Airport (KTEX) has a long-standing reputation in the flight simulation (and real-world aviation) world for being one of the most challenging airports in the United States. Perched atop a plateau at 9,070 feet (2,764 meters) above sea level in southwestern Colorado, KTEX is flanked on three sides by high mountain peaks and often experiences rapidly changing weather and wild winds, making the airport incredibly unforgiving.

Developer X-Codr Designs first tackled this legendary airport back in 2019 with its original Telluride Regional Airport UHD scenery package. The product was subsequently updated for X-Plane 12 compatibility in 2022, but since then, the real-world airport has undergone a significant modernization. To capture these changes and take advantage of quality and performance improvements in the simulator, X-Codr Designs has announced KTEX – Telluride Regional Airport V2.

According to the developer, KTEX – Telluride Regional Airport V2 will accurately replicate the current airport layout, including the recently completed apron area south of KTEX’s only runway, 09/27. Additionally, the scenery will feature a redone main passenger terminal building, complete with a new lobby, and a new maintenance hangar constructed north of the main terminal, along with other visual improvements to buildings, ground textures, and airport objects. To enhance the detail of the surrounding San Juan Mountains, X-Codr Designs has rebuilt the terrain mesh from scratch using 1/3 Arc-Second (roughly 10-meter) resolution USGS DEM data, faithfully recreating the airport area’s complex geography.

The upcoming update will be free for existing users of the original X-Codr Designs Telluride package. The developer plans to pull back the curtain further with a dedicated look at the mesh, seasonal environments, and underlying scenery plugins soon, so stay tuned to FSElite as more details are revealed.
