The first of two international airports in Shanghai, the most populous city in China, Hongqiao International was built in 1921 for mixed civilian use. During the Shanghai incident of 1932, China operated fighter attack aircraft from the airport. Later, it was occupied by the Japanese during the second Sino-Japanese War. Until 1999, it was Shanghai’s only airport until Pudong opened. Fast forward to today and Hongqiao handles mainly domestic flights to various destinations such as Beijing, Taipei, Hong Kong, Chengdu and Tokyo Japan. Airlines such as China Airlines, Eva Air, China Southern Airlines and All Nippon Airways operate out of the two runways at Hongqiao with regional and larger type aircraft like the Comac ARJ21 and the Airbus A330.
WF Scenery Studio has recreated Hongqiao International with PBR textures which include configurable wet effects, animated jetways with SODE support to operate the Visual Docking Guidance System, and windsock. The airport itself consists of bespoke buildings, real ground markings, dynamic lighting including low visibility runway lights and manually planned vehicles. Users can configure the airport through the scenery configurator.
