Taking to their official Facebook page, scenery developer Verticalsim has recently released their recreation of Peter O. Knight Airport (KTPF) for MSFS.
Peter O. Knight Airport (KTPF) is a small-sized Floridian general aviation airfield located on Davis Islands, about 3NM away from the downtown Tampa area. Historically speaking, the airport served as Tampa’s main airport from 1935 to 1945 when its larger sibling, Tampa International Airport, replaced it. Today, the airport mainly serves general aviation traffic and, although not as frequently as it once used to, the occasional seaplane touching down in the Davis Islands Basin.
Interestingly, the airport served as an auxiliary fighter landing ground during WWII and was named in honor of former U.S. Supreme Court nominee and Tampa lawyer Peter O. Knight. It also plays the role of host to the, in April held, “Islands Fest,” a Tampa area meet-and-greet event where a variety of airplanes, cars, and other objects are put on display on the airport’s grounds.
Reputed scenery developer Verticalsim has recently taken to Facebook, indicating that they have released this iconic and bustling Florida general aviation airfield for MSFS. The developer suggests that the scenery features cleaned-up orthographic imagery and properly-adjusted mesh terrain, custom 3D airport buildings, PBR textures, and custom vegetation and clutter objects, among others.
The airport is now available for purchase from Verticalsim‘s official webpage and will cost you $9.99. This price will, however, be dependent upon your region of purchase.
As a final remark, the studio indicated that this would be their final MSFS general aviation product for a while. This is due to them refocussing their attention on XPL for the foreseeable future, with their next major announcement set to take place soon.
