Adding to its already extensive offering of U.S. airports, scenery developer VerticalSim has released its rendition of South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach International Airport (KMYR) for XP11.
Myrtle Beach International Airport is a public-use airport located about 6km to the southwest of Myrtle Beach’s central business district and mainly serves its namesake city and the surrounding Horry County. The airport is considered the second busiest facility in the U.S. state of South Carolina and saw 2.4 million passengers pass through its gates in 2018.
Beginning its life as the Harrelson Municipal Airport in 1939, it was not long before the United States Army pitched up camp on the airfield grounds. Initially only using it for combat pilot training, in 1943, the airfield was wholly repurposed for military use. The airport eventually saw joint military and commercial operations taking place on its grounds up until 1993, following which it reverted to exclusively service commercial flights. Throughout its history, the airfield saw many commercial operators taxi across its apron and taxiways, including now-defunct carriers such as Air Tran Airways, Hooters Air, and Piedmont Airlines. On an interesting side note, the airport served as a Space Shuttle launch abort site for the duration of the Space Shuttle program.
Renowned scenery developer VerticalSim Studios has released its highly accurate rendition of this important U.S. leisure and charter destination for XP11. According to the product page, in addition to featuring an up-to-date version of the airport, the scenery comes included with many distinct and immersive features, including custom modeled 3D buildings using 4k HD textures, PBR ground textures, and HDR night lighting to name but just a few. The scenery also includes an animated “Justin Dupree,” whatever or whoever that is supposed to be.
If you feel as curious about that particular feature as I do, then you can now buy VerticalSim’s rendition of this iconinc field via their official online store. The purchase will set you back $17.99, subject to your region of purchase.
