Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport opened in 1929 as ‘Merle Fogg Field’, named after a local aviation pioneer. Initially a modest airfield, it saw significant expansion during World War II when it was transformed into Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale. After the war, it was returned to civil use and experienced rapid growth alongside South Florida’s booming tourism industry. Today, it is a major public airport in Broward County, Florida, near Fort Lauderdale’s cruise ports, which also makes it a popular hub for cruise passengers. Its four terminals and multiple runways, handles over 36 million passengers annually both domestic and international from a variety of airlines which operate flights to destinations across America, Europe, and the Caribbean.
Virticalsim aims to recreate the airport with a balance of detail and performance typical of their other releases. Features inside the airport perimeter will included full airport terminal modelling with a simple interior to balance with performance, reworked elevation for runway 28, custom high-detailed aerial imagery, the the latest 2024 taxiway layout with custom taxiway signage, obstruction and guard lights, and an official GSX profile upon the release. Outside the airport perimeter, Verticalsim will include a full model of Port Everglades as well.
No further detail was shared on the Verticalsim Facebook post which would suggest we are a while away from the release but FSElite will endeavour to keep you posted with any developments.
