If you’re new to flight simulation, you may have heard of an online network called VATSIM. For those that don’t know, VATSIM is short for Virtual Air Traffic Simulation Network and is essentially a giant online network that simulates air traffic. Powered by a team of dedicated volunteers and enthusiasts, the VATSIM network has many members who control airports, air space and ensure that the platform is stable to support thousands of connections.
Of course, joining an online network that is already well established can be quite intimidating. At busy airports, or events, it can be a little tricky to learn and get used to the pace. There’s also a fear of making mistakes. To help with that, VATSIM will be their First Wings event on Saturday, August 14th 2021, where 5 European countries will host controllers to help the inexperienced. First Wings is a great opportunity to start the VATSIM journey and understand what you need to know to get started.
The event is dedicated to helping pilots get used to the phraseology, the pacing and what is expected of them. To support newcomers to VATSIM, a team of experienced and patient controllers will be on hand to help you. Pilot mentors will also be there from the VATSIM Pilot Training Department on the VATSIM Discord to help answer any questions you have. The only requirement there is will be for you to know how to handle and fly the plane you’ll be using during the event.
In order to participate, you will need to book any of the 120 slots on the VATSIM First Wings event purchase. The event will run from 15:00z until 18:00z on August 14th 2021.
Finally, congratulations from us here at FSElite to the VATSIM team. 20-years is a massive milestone and a testament to how dedicated all those that support the network are. Here’s to another 20 years!
