Following the recent releases of Spaceport America, Telluride, and the nearby Gary-Chicago airport, developer UK2000 Scenery keeps the focus on American airports with the release of KARR Aurora 2023 for MSFS. Located 50 miles (80 km) west of downtown Chicago, Aurora Municipal Airport (ICAO: KARR) is a part-time towered airport located in the village of Sugar Grove, Illinois. A designated reliever airport for Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway airports, the KARR features three runways: 9/27, 15/33, and 18/36 with runway 9/27 being the longest at 6,501 ft (1,982 m). An ILS, LOC, VOR, and several GPS instrument approach procedures serve KARR and as of April 2022, the airport saw an average of 210 operations per day.
UK2000 Scenery’s rendition of KARR features custom-modeled buildings including the terminal and open-air canopy of J.A. Air Center, the airport’s primary general aviation facility and FBO. Animated people and interior views from the terminal appear to be included and nicely modeled. Numerous corporate and general aviation hangars are modeled including the 194 hangar units of the “Sky Haven” complex located on the southeastern side of the airport. Several hangars feature open doors with interior details and static aircraft. Though users also have the option to install a non-static aircraft version of the scenery if desired.
