Over on their Facebook page, UK2000 Scenery has issued an important statement revealing their plans for them and their products in the future.
The Xtreme Series
UK2000’s Xtreme Series is made up of the majority of main airports within the United Kingdom which have been enjoyed by thousands over the past 10 years of development. UK2000 are bringing the Xtreme Series to an end with the upcoming release of Bournemouth Xtreme due January-February 2019. They will continue to update and sell the existing Xtreme Series airports but no longer add new airports to the series. Updates for Xtreme Series scenery will cease after 2020 but support will continue.
So, what now?
Replacing the Xtreme Series will be a rather simple naming system, the airport name and the year it is based on, for example, UK2000 Inverness 2020.
As we all know, times are changing and our current hardware is excelling in performance for its time. This also means our simulators have phased out of the 32bit architecture onto 64bit being able to support higher texture detail, virtual reality etc.
UK2000 are using ancient scenery development methods that need to be replaced in order to cope with the times and demand. For this, they’ll need to create new tools and solutions for an optimised workflow meaning that they won’t be making any new or unplanned releases throughout 2019. This also means that future scenery by UK2000 will take longer to develop as they have to make everything from scratch compared to their previous, outdated method using simple ‘rasters’ which do not scale to high resolution.
UK2000 expect to return to making new releases in 2020 once they are ready with their new tools, solutions and knowledge.
