Freeware developers Sea2Sky and ZeroDollarPayware have released Tokyo Narita International (RJAA) freeware for X-Plane 11. The new scenery product has been in development for 21 months with a total of 800 hours poured into creating this new airport for X-Plane 11 users.
The large international airport serves the Greater Tokyo Area and is the busiest airport in Japan for both domestic and international travel. Over 44 million passengers passed through the airport in 2019 and airlines such as JAL, ANA and Jetstar Japan are all based there. There is also numerous cargo operations that fly to and from Narita Airport on a daily basis.
On the X-Plane.org forum download page, the developers said that they “initially started this ambitious project knowing absolutely nothing about scenery development.” They went onto say that by joining together, they have learned new and valuable techniques which will help them with future products.
Tokyo Narita International (RJAA) by Sea2Sky and ZeroDollarPayware features custom mesh, textures and terminals to match their real-world counterparts. Furthermore, the airport product features over 500 hand-placed objects, all taxi lines and gate markings, 3D grass and custom environmental effects on the ground. The airport is also fully compatible with SAM jetways and the Docking Guidance System.
As for their next product, the team confirmed that we can expect an announcement soon. They did hint that the airport is within 3 hours of Narita, limiting the number of airports it could possibly be.
