When the words “Final Shots” come from Iain, you know that the release of an Orbx product isn’t far off. This time, the tag was attached to relatively new developer Matteo Venziani’s Chester Airport (KSNC).
The public airport in Connecticut is owned by Whelen Aviation and is used for general aviation. The small airport has a single runway measuring just 782m in length, meaning you have to hit the ground pretty quickly to ensure a safe arrival. What makes the approach even more interesting is that the airport is surrounded by a large forest and multiple lakes. It also doesn’t help that the runway has steep slopes and getting to the ramp area also requires you to put your foot down on the brakes. This has been fully modelled in this Orbx airport.
The airport will feature 7cm/px near the airport and then 50cm/px for the surrounding area, with the textures being highly detailed and will vary depending on the season. In addition to changing textures, the volumetric trees, foliage and runway textures will change matching the view outdoors. Also, using Orbx’s technology, the airport will feel alive with animated windsocks, animated people and even insects will be animated.
Upon release, we’ll let you know final costing. For now, keep an eye on Orbx’s forums for more details.
