The Charity Scenery Project: Scenery For A Cause

If you’re like me, you probably don’t give to charity as often as you should. If you’re really like me, you also have an unhealthy scenery addiction for your simulator(s). Fortunately for people like you and I, we’re able to solve both of these problems with the help of the Charity Scenery Project.

The Charity Scenery Project was founded by Craig Tomkins, a flight sim enthusiast with real-world hours in rotorcraft as well as fixed-wing aircraft. His goal was to bring realism to the sim in the form of quality scenery recreations while supporting worthy causes with the proceeds from doing so. Soon, he was joined by an international team of like-minded people who shared the same passion.

The talented not-for-profit development group released their first scenery in April of this year – Vanguard Helipad for P3D v4 (above). Vanguard is a central London helipad on the Isle Of Dogs with easy access to Canary Wharf, the city of London, O2 Arena, Olympic Park and the ExCel Centre.
With plans to expand this scenery to X-Plane and FSX/P3D 32-bit, the team only ask a measly £1 for doing so, with 100% of the proceeds going to the London Air Ambulance charity.

Now, the team are preparing to release their second scenery later today. The Royal London Hospital (seen below) is located in central London, and it’s here that the London Air Ambulance is based. The 10 million people within London’s M25 orbital road are reliant on the Air Ambulance to be able to reach them within 15 minutes from this base. The incidents that the service attends to range from traffic collisions, right through to shootings and stabbings which the ambulance can be called out to up to 5 times a day. This scenery is planned to be released initially for P3Dv4, with FSX/P3D 32-bit and X-Plane 11 to follow at a later date. Once again, all profits from the sales of this scenery will be donated to the London Air Ambulance.

Check out The Charity Scenery Project website, and keep your eyes peeled for the availability of The Royal London Hospital later today.
