TFDi Design has shared a new development update covering progress on its highly anticipated update for the MD-11 on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, alongside news on MSFS 2024 and Xbox support. We also learn more about the upcoming Extended Simulation package.
The team admits they are behind their original 60-day target, but says work is progressing well across several areas. On the visual side, the MD-11’s exterior model is being completely rebuilt with improved textures, animations, and new details such as flap and slat mechanics, dirt, rivets, and service port labels. The cabin has also seen a major overhaul with new textures, effects, and added immersion. Minor cockpit additions are planned, too, including openable windows and additional controls.

System work continues to advance with updates to PROF descent logic, step climbs, ATO waypoints, and custom engine simulations.
The upcoming Extended Simulation package will greatly expand immersion for the MD-11, with over 160 failure scenarios already implemented and more in development. Pilots can perform detailed maintenance inspections and repairs, opt for routine servicing such as oil or fire bottle checks, and even track a unique maintenance history for each airframe through a local log system. For those flying online, settings allow full control over the likelihood and type of failures to balance immersion with IVAO and VATSIM compliance. This is nearing completion, but we’ll be seeing a deeper dive into this in the future.
TFDi also confirmed that FS24 and Xbox versions are in active development. Rather than a simple port, the aircraft will feature platform-specific models, FS24-native texture streaming, and new features. Release for FS24 PC and Xbox will come simultaneously, although no firm date has been given.
TFDi closed by thanking the community for its patience, adding that QA feedback has been positive and that they remain committed to delivering a polished MD-11 experience. They are working hard to ensure it’s out just as soon as possible.
