After 10 years of service, TFDi Design has shut down smartCARS 2. The news comes from their official Discord channel and is a reminder to the community that now is the time to upgrade to smartCARS 3. This will have an impact on virtual airlines and pilots who uses the technology to track their flights.
For the virtual airlines out there, you will now need to upgrade to version 3 of smartCARS. The new version gives you native API access to phpVMS7, the ability to create custom plugins and also customise the parameters that are tracked and logged. Overall, the new version gives you much greater flexibility and a vastly improved experience.
If you are a virtual airline, you can get a free trail lasting a month by using the code SMARTCARS2SENDOFF.
As for pilots, upgrading will give you similar benefits. A smartCARS Pro subscription will allow you to track and backup all of your PIREPS, detailed flight recordings with playback on moving maps and see a vertical situation graph, and also access real-world airline schedules.
As with the virtual airlines, TFDi Design is offering a free month of smartCARS Pro for pilots by using code PROISTHEWAYTOGO.
MD-11
Of course, TFDi Design hasn’t forgotten about the MD-11 and is hard at work on providing news on the aircraft soon. Modelling and artwork continues to make progress and you can hear a sneak preview of the new sounds coming to the plane. You can see some work-in-progress previews below.
