A year ago, TFDi Design released its MD-11 for MSFS and Prepar3D. Whilst the team is still very much hard at work on improving the product and bringing it to new platforms, TFDi Design shared an update surrounding its current status and what you can expect in the near term.
Free Art Update
To start, there will be a new free of charge update for all owners of the product in MSFS 2020. This new ‘free art update’ will have a complete exterior overhaul, with refinement of the modelling and texturing of the aircraft. The team expects to have the update ready in the next 60 days, with more news to follow ahead of its release.
Prepar3D Development Update
For those who still fly the bird in Prepar3D will want to pay attention to this part. TFDi was fully committed to bringing the plane to the older platform, and that was a promise they delivered. However, with usership dropping over 50% year over year, TFDi Design has opted to cease development once major and critical items are fixed. Once specifics are known, they will make an announcement.
While P3D will receive the Extended Simulation Package, offering features like operational failures and limited circuit breaker functionality, it will not receive the major art update that MSFS users will benefit from. Additionally, the Pratt & Whitney (PW) engine variant will not be coming to the P3D version. It should be reminded that users of the P3D version can try the MD-11 in MSFS 2020 at no extra cost.
By doing this, it means TFDi Design can focus on paving the way for the future.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
The team is bringing the MD-11 to MSFS 2024, taking full advantage of the new streaming technology for enhanced visuals and implementing a cabin-level of detail system to minimise performance impact, whilst still having some excellent eye-candy. Expect moving overhead bins, moving window blinds, and more.
To ensure that the quality is of the highest standard, and due to the extra work involved, TFDi will be asking for a modest $5 upgrade cost for existing users when MSFS 2024 support comes. They will also be increasing the base price of the aircraft by $5 to $74.99 at that time. Collector’s Edition will automatically receive this update for free.
