The developer SkyDesigners has worked on an updated “V2” version of the French Airbase 102 Capitaine Guynemer scenery. The scenery is published by Miltech Simulations, who focuses on military content for MSFS and is now available for purchase. The airport (ICAO: LFSD) has a rich military history and is located closely next to the city of Dijon in France.
Currently in use as an civilian airport, throughout its long existence it was primarily used as an air base for the French Air force, as far back as the First World War. It is therefore no surprise the airfield is named after Georges Guynemer, a French WW1 fighter ace with 54 victories. This scenery, however, is reflecting the state of the airport as it was during the 2010’s era when it was the home base of the 1/2 ”Cigognes” Squadron. The base also stationed multiple generations of Dassault aircraft including several Mirage 2000 family aircraft. There are a total of two runways, one of them quite short and narrow at 1200m long and 23m wide. The other runway is 2400m long and almost double as wide at 45m for larger aircraft.
The scenery covers the airbase itself, various military installations, the Dijon SAG (aerial police) helibase and the civilian side, formally named “Dijon Bourgogne”. According to the developer photorealistic textures have been used for buildings and ground surfaces. A number of static aircraft are also included such as the Mirage 2000-5F and Alphajet E to enhance immersion and realism.
The scenery is available for purchase through Orbx and Miltech Simulations, in both cases for a price around $16.00 USD, excluding taxes.
