In accomplishing their goal of increasing coverage in Pakistan, MSFS and P3D developers SimArc have released their rendition of the new Islamabad International Airport (ICAO: OPIS) for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Islamabad International Airport started operations on May 3, 2018, replacing Benazir Bhutto International Airport as the main international airport, and serving the Islamabad-Rawalpindi metropolitan area, 20 kilometres west of the twin cities. The airport has a passenger capacity up to 9 million passengers and 80,000 metric tons of cargo in its first phase, with the ambition to hit 25 million passengers a year in a few years. There are about 30 stands, of which 15 are located at the main terminal, and is the first and also only Pakistani airport that can handle the Airbus A380. Islamabad International Airport will be connected to the metro network for commuters, which is planned to become operational in the near future.
Using the MSFS SDK, the airport looks highly detailed, making use of PBR textures and custom 3D models for all airport buildings. The terminal interior has been modelled in great detail and hundreds of dynamic lights provide sufficient night detail.
