Following the reveal of their new brand identity and associated logo, RWY26 Simulations has recently released their faithfully recreated rendition of Marathon Airport (KMTH) for XPlane 11.
Florida Keys Marathon Airport (KMTH) is a small-sized general aviation airfield located along the famed Overseas Highway in Marathon, Monroe County, Florida. The airport officially began construction in 1942 and, initially, due to WWII, served as part of the United States Navy flight program. The airfield eventually became known as Navy Outlying Field (OLF), complementing operations at the nearby Naval Air Station Key West, and, at the time, served as the home base for the U.S. Air Force’s 26th Antisubmarine Wing.
Only seeing limited commercial services operating from its ground during its existence, Florida Keys Marathon Airport (KMTH) saw the occasional jet service leave its runway, with Freedom Airlines, a subcontractor for Delta Air Lines, operating scheduled jet services up until 2007 using Embraer ERJ-145 regional jets. Following the end of commercial aviation activity at the airport in 2008, the airfield has since succeeded in reestablishing itself as a general aviation hub within the Florida Keys region.
Renowned scenery developer RWY26 Simulations has recently published its detail-rich representation of this iconic Floridian airfield for XPlane 11 users to enjoy. According to the developer, the scenery comes included with, among others, accurately modeled 3D airport buildings and structures, HD ground textures using PBR materials, as well as custom night lighting.
The scenery is now available to be picked up on the simMarket online store and will cost you €15.00 E.x. VAT.
