REX Announces Weather Force 2020 For Microsoft Flight Simulator

After a long period of silence, REX Simulations has today announced the next product will be Weather Force 2020 for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The all-new real-time weather engine is designed exclusively for Microsoft Flight Simulator and will add dynamic weather based on real-world metar data to the simulator.

On a new page made by REX, the new weather add-on will feature numerous technologies to make injecting the weather into Microsoft Flight Simulator even more realistic than before. The data will be sourced regularly from NOAA servers and will be accurate to 1/8th of a mile, according to REX. In sparse areas, advanced algorithms combine numerous amounts of data to create weather over these regions.

The new user-interface makes finding weather easy to do, as well as adding Dynamic Changing Weather Scenarios (DCWS). The DCWS from REX within the Weather Force 2020 is a way to have preset weather within the simulator that changes over time. Some examples given were Winter storms, Spring showers, and Hot and humid summers. The scenarios can be changed and added to overtime as they sit on the REX servers.

Alongside all of this information, REX gave a comparison of how Microsoft Flight Simulator understands metar data compared to how the new Weather Force 2020 product will inject the same metar data into your simulator.

In the future, REX says that Historic/Archived weather data will be made available, along with the ability to share presets and also have a fully-featured mapping system in place.

Release dates and prices were not announced, but as always, we’ll let you know when we find out more.
