PMDG Reveals Release Timeframe for 777-200ER on MSFS 2020/24; No New Titles on MSFS 2020

PMDG has confirmed a rough timeline of when we can expect to fly the 777-200ER in MSFS 2020/2024.

PMDG Reveals Release Timeframe for 777-200ER on MSFS 2020/24; No New Titles on MSFS 2020

PMDG’s Robert Randazzo gave a new detailed forum post earlier today detailing the release timeframe for the 777-200ER on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024, whilst also giving us fresh details on the future at PMDG. We saw earlier this week that the team released the new PMDG Ops Centre v3.0, and now the team is preparing to release the new plane for us. Expect to see the PMDG DC-6 and the PMDG 737NGs for MSFS 2020 appear in OC3 in the coming days.

PMDG 777-200ER Release Date

A new provisional release date for the PMDG 777-200ER has been set by PMDG and shared with us. It is anticipated that the PMDG 777-200ER for MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 will release between April 16th 2025 and April 29th 2025. The package will feature 3 engine variants that each has their own model, performance characteristics, and customised sounds.

Robert said that this will be the first product to feature PMDG’s “new generation of sound packages,” which will be even more feature-rich than previous products. This includes new recordings direct from the flightdeck of a 777-200ER. Furthermore, the new product will come with new functionality in the EFB, including integration with SimBrief. There will be plenty more functionality and features with the plane when it releases in that 2 week period.

Although a price has yet to be announced, PMDG once again reiterated that a single purchase will give you access to both the MSFS 2020 and the MSFS 2024 version of the plane, plus 30 free liveries at release (PC).

Product Update Timelines for MSFS 2024

Not only did we get a rough idea on when the PMDG 777-200ER will release, PMDG also gave us a bit of insight as to when we can expect updates for other products to be given the MSFS 2024 update treatment. Here is the rollout sequence for PMDG products in MSFS 2024.

  • PMDG 777-200ER (16APR-29APR)
  • PMDG 777F (~Mid-to-late May)
  • PMDG 777-300ER (~Mid-to-late-May)
  • PMDG DC-6 (~Early May)
  • PMDG 777-200LR (~Late May-to-Early June?)
  • PMDG 737NGs (TBA)

These dates are, of course, just estimations and are subject to change. These are conversions to MSFS 2024 and are not simply made to just work. PMDG had previously confirmed that all the 777 products will be updated free of charge, with the 737 requiring an upgrade fee if owned on MSFS 2020 as they will be a “near-full rebuild”, with new features, new sounds, and more.

No New Titles on MSFS 2020

This news should surprise no one as PMDG had previously stated that the PMDG 747 series has been built with MSFS 2024 in mind. PMDG has stated that the differences between MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 are “effectively entirely different products”, citing that there are unique build requirements, model structures, and all-new texture implementations. Therefore, building for two platforms at the same time is really inefficient.

This is why PMDG has confirmed without a shadow of a doubt that there will be no new titles on Microsoft Flight Simulator following the release of the PMDG 777-200ER. That isn’t to say updates won’t happen, but don’t expect the revamped 737NG line or the 747 line of products to appear on the 5 year old simulator.

End of Life for P3D

Finally, PMDG has confirmed that they will be saying a proper farewell to Prepar3D as of June 30th 2025. From this date onward, PMDG will no longer provide support for these products. Customers can still download the products from their accounts, but support will end. PMDG recognises that this will disappoint some users, but they want to move forward with the times and ensure that their teams are able to maintain products that are being used by the majority of their customer base.
