PMDG Refines 777-200ER Release Window, Details MSFS 2024 Rollout for Other Aircraft

Following previous updates, PMDG’s Robert Randazzo provided further details via forum post yesterday regarding the release timeframe for the Boeing 777-200ER on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. This latest forum post offers a narrower expected launch window for the 200ER and clarifies the projected sequence for bringing the 777F, 777-300ER, and DC-6 to MSFS 2024.

PMDG 777-200ER Release Details

PMDG has updated the provisional release window for the 777-200ER. The current expectation shared by the team is for the product to release for MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 between Tuesday, April 29th 2025 and Thursday, May 1st 2025. PMDG anticipates providing advance notice the day prior to release.

Randazzo reiterated that the 777-200ER package includes three engine options with associated models, sound packages, and performance profiles. He also noted it contains new features for the PMDG 777 product line and stands as their first native MSFS 2024 package.

Regarding access, Randazzo confirmed a single purchase provides access to both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 versions, managed via the PMDG Operations Center. The product is planned for submission to the Microsoft Marketplace on both platforms, although PMDG anticipates some latency between their direct store release and Marketplace availability. Xbox users will gain access via the Marketplace, and PMDG expects Operations Center liveries to also be accessible through the Marketplace interface.

Randazzo also touched upon the final testing phase for the 777-200ER, describing an extensive post-maintenance validation flight profile he recently performed using the simulator. He stated the simulation allowed executing nearly all real-world procedures, demonstrating its depth, and helped identify a few remaining minor issues which are now being investigated by the development team.

MSFS 2024 Update Timelines

With development winding down on the 777-200ER, Randazzo says that PMDG’s resources are shifting towards updating the 777F and 777-300ER for MSFS 2024. According to Randazzo, significant platform differences necessitate a substantial rebuild effort for both aircraft, which will also incorporate new features from the 200ER project. This work is reportedly well underway.

The current projected rollout sequence and status for MSFS 2024 versions were outlined as follows:

  • PMDG 777-200ER: 29APR25 – 01MAY25
  • PMDG 777F: Second Half of May 2025
  • PMDG 777-300ER: Approximately 10-14 days following the 777F release
  • PMDG DC-6: “soon™” (MSFS 2024 overhaul nearing completion; includes minor cosmetic improvements)

For existing owners, PMDG clarified that customers who purchased the 777F, 777-300ER, or DC-6 via PMDG.com for MSFS 2020 will automatically receive the MSFS 2024 compatible versions through the Operations Center. For Microsoft Marketplace customers, while current guidance from Microsoft suggests cross-platform entitlement will be possible, PMDG stressed that final implementation depends on Microsoft’s systems and policies, which are still being fully understood.

Future Platform Focus

Randazzo’s forum post implicitly reinforces PMDG’s previously stated platform strategy. Following the 777-200ER, no further new product lines are planned for release on MSFS 2020, with future development focused on MSFS 2024 due to significant technical differences. Additionally, the planned end-of-support date for all Prepar3D products for PMDG remains June 30th 2025.
