What started as a temporary countermeasure to prevent people from buying the new 777-300ER for the wrong sim, may have turned into a permanent decision by PMDG to no longer sell any products for Prepar3D.
People have previously had problems with buying new PMDG add-ons, as they would accidentally buy them for the wrong sim. PMDG has products which run across different platforms, namely Prepar3D and Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020).
To avoid confusion during the release of their much anticipated 777-300ER, PMDG made the decision to temporarily remove all P3D products from the store, allowing only the MSFS products to be purchased. A day later however, PMDG Forum administrator Mathijs commented the following: “At this moment, we have stopped selling P3D products. We are not sure if they will reappear. Sales are neglectable, and the costs to sell them meant they did not bring in any profit”. Mathijs went on to say in a different statement that PMDG will continue to support the product for previous customers.
Although Prepar3D has been put aside by many now, it long bridged the gap between the older Flight Simulator X and the current Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020), and still has a big community who use and love the sim. It still receives regular updates, and its latest version, Prepar3D v6, was released just last year. There are also many third party developers who still create content for P3D to this day, but it will remain to be seen whether or not PMDG will remain as one of those.
