Robert Randazzo of PMDG has shared his latest development update, highlighting progress across the product line. Most of the information is relatively similar to before, but there is some significant new information on the 777 and the 747 line of products.
777 Sound Update Nears Release
One of the most anticipated updates for the 777 is the brand-new sound package for the line-up. This update has been rebuilt from the ground up using hundreds of on-site recordings, advanced studio-grade equipment, and extensive mixing to create what Randazzo called a truly authentic flight deck and cabin environment.
Rather than replicating the distorted high-frequency audio often heard in YouTube cockpit videos, PMDG’s new approach aims to capture the full spectrum of sound as it is experienced on the aircraft itself. Randazzo explained that moving through the cabin during climb is particularly immersive, with the audio profile changing dynamically from cockpit to aft cabin.
The sound update will initially launch for the 777-300ER, 777F, and 777-200LR, with the technology later being integrated into the 737 product line. Testing is now in its final stages, with release expected in the coming weeks.
In other related 777 news, a new build will be pushed out to PMDG.com customers soon, and rolled out to in-sim Marketplace users shortly after. The PMDG 777-200LR has been held off of Marketplace due to some build issues related to the Marketplace, but should be resolved soon.
737 For MSFS
Robert confirmed that the team is now working on “fitness and cleanup” for the 737-800 in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. They are actively looking at dates to roll the product out to the new simulator, but they are not talking dates just yet. Once the -800 goes into final testing, the team will pivot to the other aircraft types in the line-up and will work to bring those variants to the new simulator just as quickly as possible.
747-100 Landing Gear Preview In-Sim
For the first time, PMDG has offered a glimpse of the upcoming 747 for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Randazzo shared an in-progress image showcasing the fully modelled landing gear, which he described as “fantastic” in its level of detail. You can view it above.
“This is just to give you an idea of just how detailed the model is going to be when it is set in front of the delivery stand for you to take on your first flight,” Randazzo wrote.
While the screenshot is clearly an early work-in-progress (with some parts missing, including an entire landing gear assembly), the teaser confirms that the 747 is steadily moving forward in development.
