As a little pre-holiday treat, PMDG’s Robert Randazzo shared a handful of images for their upcoming 747 series in Microsoft Flight Simulator. The in-development images are for its 747-100 series and give us an early preview of the wing structure being developed.
To provide some context, Robert said, “much of the larger structure hasn’t been properly completed and there remains a ton of work left to do- but we are sharing these images with you in their in-development state so that you can get excited about what we are creating for you.”
This is the first time (from what I can recall anyway) that PMDG has given us such an early look at their product in development. It’s a far cry from their usual development process of only showcasing once we see their products in the simulator a state that is closer to what we would fly in our sims. Robert emphasised that this will be the first project in which the community will join PMDG on the development process as the project comes together. In November, we did see some early cockpit renders.
As such, it’s really important to note that these images are work-in-progress and from the model building software and in no way is it textured. With such detail in the modelling, PMDG is hoping to really showcase the 747 in a stunning way once its actually in the simulator itself.
To remind us, Robert said that the 747-100 and the 747-400 (including all three engine types), along with passenger and cargo versions, will be the first types to be released. Eventually, the “classic” side of the product line will include the 747-200 and SP, with the 300 and -8 series coming towards the end of the cycle.
There is still plenty of work to do, but as usual, we’ll keep you posted.
